Brake Wear Monitoring

Brakes are designed to slow and stop the vehicle, and in an EV, they wear much slower than in a traditional gas-powered car. This is because they have regenerative processes involving the motor, slowing down the vehicle by recovering kinetic energy and supplying it back to the battery.

A battery will lose its ability to fully charge and hold less energy in the long term. You may not notice it as it gradually diminishes capacity. Wheel alignments are another maintenance procedure that is performed every 6-12 months. This will keep them wearing a full pattern across the tire and prolong their overall life.

Fluid Top Ups

The cooling system levels should be checked regularly to ensure the battery doesn’t overheat, so verify this every six months. Inspect the hoses as well. Washer fluid can be checked and topped up regularly along with brake fluid, but it may only need to be changed every two years.

Software Updates

Electric vehicles are sophisticated machines with many computerized components for operation and monitoring. You will need to travel to the dealership for software updates, allowing you to fix any security issues and ensure your vehicle runs smoothly.

General Maintenance Schedule

Maintaining an electric vehicle (EV) is generally less costly and less frequent than maintaining traditional internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles. Every month, examine your vehicle’s tire pressure and look for any signs of tire wear. In addition, it’s essential to keep the washer fluid topped up.

For every 12,000 kilometres or 7,500 miles travelled, it is recommended to perform a tire rotation and a thorough brake inspection. During this time, also be sure to check the battery coolant level. Remember to inspect indoor and outdoor lighting and the cabin air filter for optimum performance.

Remember, there are no oil changes, fuel pumps, water pumps, spark plugs, drive belts, transmissions and other components that ICE vehicles have, so you won’t need to service your EV as much.
